hyperjoule

hyperjoule (Juliann Stainbrook) has been a full-stack web developer since the early 1990s, contributing to major projects for companies like American Greetings, Advance Publications, Microsoft, and AOL. With decades of experience, she has played a role in shaping the web and has been a contracted developer on some of the most popular and high-trafficked Meta-owned worlds.
As an early creator in the beta program for Horizon Worlds, she has applied her scripting expertise to hundreds of active worlds on the platform. Her work has been recognized in the Meta Horizon Creator Competition: Short Loop Mobile Worlds, where she won in the Best Use of Focused Interaction category. As a Meta contractor, she has mentored creators through the Builder’s Track and recently guided participants at the 2025 MIT RealityHack with Meta and XR Bootcamp.
In addition to her work with Meta, hyperjoule has worked professionally as a VR/XR developer and mentor for large media and software development firms, where she has contributed to some of the most innovative projects in the immersive technology space. Beyond her professional work, she also has extensive volunteer experience mentoring junior developers, helping them navigate the industry and grow their skills.

drawBattle
As the creator of drawBattle 👽, hyperjoule was responsible for designing and implementing all the mechanics, animations, and interactive elements in the world. This fun-filled VR and mobile cross-play experience turns crayons into weapons, allowing players to sketch, doodle, and compete for artistic glory. Quick, fun, and packed with cosmic charm, players must use their creativity to outshine the competition.
Winner of the Best Use of Focused Interaction category in the 2024 Meta Horizon Creator Competition: Short Loop Mobile Worlds, drawBattle offers an engaging, dynamic experience that showcases the power of interactive art in a cosmic showdown.

NBA Arena
As part of the team contracted to develop NBA Arena in the metaverse, hyperjoule was responsible for developing some of the interactive mechanics that power the world. NBA Arena offers fans a unique immersive experience, allowing them to watch live NBA games courtside and engage with interactive features like Slam Dunk Jam, Basket Blitz, and team voting for Whose House Is This. By focusing on seamless gameplay and dynamic user interactions, hyperjoule helped create a fully immersive environment where fans can actively participate in the excitement of live sports.

Halloween Horror Nights
Jump into HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS VR for a heart-pounding haunted house experience with friends! Explore eerie environments, find hidden keys, and beware of the creepy crows—three tags and you're dead! Available for up to 4 players.
As part of the Meta contracted team, hyperjoule helped bring this terrifying experience to life for Universal Studios, recreating the Halloween Horror Nights theme park experience in the virtual world. She was responsible for developing some of the mechanics and effects that make this immersive world both thrilling and spine-chilling.

The Princess Tower
All interactive elements in The Princess Tower were developed by hyperjoule, including a VR storybook slideshow that allows players to interact, rewind, fast forward, and replay the experience in a beautifully crafted fairytale setting. Immerse yourself in the magic of The Princess Tower, where long auburn locks, hidden secrets, and an enchanted forest bring the timeless tale of Rapunzel to life like never before. This fully interactive storybook experience blends immersive storytelling with dynamic user engagement, creating a world where players can step into a fairytale and relive the adventure again and again.

PurpleWren (Elaine West) is a pioneering VR developer, creative designer, and immersive storyteller who has helped pave the way for VR art and interactive experiences. As an early innovator in virtual storytelling, she pushes the boundaries of immersive media.
A Legacy MHCP member, PurpleWren contributed to Meta’s Creator Program, shaping VR game mechanics and player engagement strategies. She designs captivating interactive worlds, refining gameplay and retention mechanics to enhance player immersion.
With over 20 years in advertising and media, PurpleWren has led high-volume publishing operations, directing and printing thousands of newsprint issues while overseeing layout design, production, and audience engagement. Her expertise in branding, marketing, and interactive design strengthens her ability to craft compelling digital experiences.
Recently, she and her teammate won Meta's Horizon Worlds Mobile Game Loop Competition for Best Use of Focused Interaction, showcasing her ability to create intuitive game loops. She also collaborated with Meta’s Women+ Belonging Co-Design program, focusing on making the metaverse a better place. She continues to shape the future of VR and interactive media, pioneering new ways for audiences to engage with immersive storytelling.

As the lead artist, PurpleWren crafted the visual identity of drawBattle, combining my expertise in 3D modeling, graphic design, and creative direction to bring the game’s artistic vision to life. Using tools like Blender, Photoshop, and Canva, PurpleWren designed every detail with precision, from the immersive environments to the user interface. PurpleWren also integrated innovative AI technology to streamline production, ensuring the aesthetic was both cohesive and engaging across VR and mobile platforms. My work transformed the game into a visually captivating experience that celebrates creativity and connection.
